Winter diving training for Iowa rescue divers
Ice lake rescues pose unique hazards for the Iowa County Underwater Search Unit. Members train on ice dives at Yenrough Park and in lava quarry ponds to improve cold water diving skills. The unit, formed in 1971 by the sheriff and civil defense departments, includes 55 members with 15 active rescuers and emphasizes safety, buddy systems, and specialized gear.
