Detectives linked him to entries at a barber shop apartment two service stations and multiple grocery stores before admitting motive was to get spending money. He was to be taken to juvenile court Monday afternoon.
The city plans 48 and 42 inch main sewer lines from a pump site into the new park along Prairie creek to Sixth street. An 2830 foot eight and ten inch section will extend into the park. Hennesseys quoted 356,827.70 for the large interceptor and 17,855 for the smaller line. The two parts are inseparable and bid as a single contract. Earl R. Smith a former Cedar Rapids resident and Burroughs Adding Machine regional manager died Sunday evening in Grosse Pointe Woods near Detroit. Born September 7, 1900 in Iowa he is survived by his wife Selma Samuelson two daughters Christine Kathleen both at home and a sister Mrs Harrry Whitney of Cedar Rapids. He was a Lutheran and services will be in Turner chapel with burial in Linwood cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bean of 915 Third Street SW Cedar Rapids died Monday. Survived by parents two half siblings three half brothers a brother and a sister and two grandparents all of Cedar Rapids. Graveside services set for 1 30 p m Wednesday at Linwood Cemetery with callers welcome after 1 p m Tuesday. Everett E Ford of Marion pled guilty to drunk driving and fined 300 dollars plus costs.
Judge John W. Tobin in Vin ton granted Central Iowa Power Cooperative seven extra days to plead in the Cedar Rapids annexation case. The extension runs from the final deposition by Iowa Supreme Court on landowners’ interlocutory appeal. Area residents and the cooperative oppose annexation near Hawk Eye Downs.
William C. Coul tas of Mt Vernon received a 30 day suspended sentence from District Judge Floyd Philbrick after pleading guilty to operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. The judge suspended the term on good behavior and Coul tas was taxed with court costs. He admitted taking an automobile belonging to William B. Tharp on August 4, 1956. A divorce suit by Robert R. Beck against Janet L. Beck was continued Monday without prejudice.

A bill introduced by Rep. John F. Walter proposes a conservation commission program to prescribe instruction for youths and issue certificates to those who pass tests. The commission would cooperate with state groups like the Izaac Walton League to provide firearms safety instruction and determine eligibility for hunting permits.
House floor leader Robert B. Carson filed a resolution to make the governor's committee on employment of the handicapped a permanent body with an annual $1,500 appropriation. Rep. Clifford M. Vance sponsored two bills allowing hospitals to contract for liability insurance and to provide proper release of chattel mortgages after payment.

The Eisenhower jacket will replace the blouse with front buttons, inner liners, and belt hooks, while color is set to blue.

H Franklin Kemp and Harry Sargeant announced bids for three and one year terms respectively. Jensen, a former Bricklayers union No 1 president, has lived in Cedar Rapids most of his life and has three daughters and a son.
General James A. Van Fleet, in Cairo as a special adviser to Ralph M. Parsons, lauded Egyptian President Nasser as a hero. He cited Nasser’s leadership against chaos and poverty and predicted no Communist threat in Egypt, outlining a plan for American free enterprise aid.
DES MOINES AP The Iowa senate confirmed Senator Arnold Utzig of Dubuque for the State Board of Parole a $4800 a year post. Nomination came Friday and the vote was in executive session. Utzig has served in the legislature since 1943 including time in the house.
