Private skating rink spurs youth effort at Sixth Street
At 1104 Sixth Street NW two boys Earl and Leland Christensen with siblings Mildred and Rosie plus Benny Graw and Dorothy Nosek built a private 20 by 50 foot ice rink using a frost layer from repeated water floods. They obtained permission from grocer Leo Rider to use the adjacent lot and plan to practice speed and figure skating, aiming for future Olympic potential while skipping the Roosevelt municipal rink.
