A winter storm worsened drifting across northwest and central Iowa as temperatures plunged below zero. North to 30 below and south to 20 below were forecast, with widespread snowfall and major disruption to rail service including Milwaukee and Rock Island lines.
Twelve neighbors with a county truck cleared snowdrifted routes to the Lee Wagner farm eight miles southwest of Tipton to transfer him to a Tipton hospital for pneumonia treatment. Two and a half miles of improvised highway across fields were laid. Dr. P. M Hoffman relied on a snowplow to visit the patient last week.

O Connor, furious over a radio attack, warned he would kick Coughlin from Capitol to White House if they meet, while Coughlin urged Roosevelt to lift the House rules chairman’s block on an inflation bill aiding farm mortgages.
M. J. Krumm 40 of Palo suffered serious internal injuries after being pinned between a truck and a loading chute at Wilson and Company packing house. He was taken to St Luke's hospital around noon Monday. Georg e Minor, also of Palo, backed the truck into the chute at the time of the incident.
A conductor died and a motorman was seriously hurt in a head on collision between two subway trains on the Eighth Avenue line near Fifth Avenue station in Brooklyn. One train ran runaway with no one aboard. The crews were the only occupants.
