The house roads and highways committee on Friday urged passage of a bill to abolish the Iowa Toll Road Authority and a measure to require the State Highway Commission to publish a 10 year program for improving primary roads. The toll road bill, already approved by the senate, would eliminate the agency created in 1955 to oversee an east west toll road. Plans fell through because the federal interstate program will build a four lane road nearly parallel to the toll route. The highway program bill would require the commission to update the 10 year plan at least every five years and to publish annually a report on highway conditions plus a year ahead plan of improvements by December 31.
