Legion's Team To Be Honored At Tuesday Fete

The 1952 Cedar Rapids Hanford post Junior Legion baseball squad, runner up in the state tournament, will be honored at a Tuesday sports night at Memorial Coliseum at 8 p.m. Frank Tvrdik will accept the runnerup trophy from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. A banquet at the Montrose hotel precedes the program. Otto Vogel and Tommy Gibbons are among the guest speakers with VFW band and Barber Shop chorus providing music. Gibbons arrives Cedar Rapids Tuesday night and will stay at the Montrose.

Cedar Rapids Skaters Sweep National Titles An Ambitious Weekend

Cedar Rapids athletes Ann Cooper and Dave Arends dominated the national meet in Champaign. Arends set two national marks on Saturday and then another in Sundays 400 yard juvenile boys race, with times 27.7, 1:26.2 and 41.7 respectively. Ann Cooper tied a national record by winning the junior girls 440 yard event in 46.4. The Cedar Rapids duo helped their city tie for fourth in the final team standings as Illinois Association claimed the team title.

DES MOINES AP Nine high school girls basketball teams make their first appearance at the Iowa state tournament February 24 to 28. New entrants include Gilbert Garnaville Anita Hubbard Renwick Kinross Lost Nation New Sharon and Grand River.
