School bus narrowly avoids car crash on icy Ely road

A Cedar Rapids man, Edwin M. Hadenfeldt, 23, lost control on an icy stretch near Ely and struck a northbound car driven by Glen Miner, 49, injuring Mrs. Miner. The school bus driver avoided contact. no students were hurt. Miner released, Mrs. Miner in fair condition. Hadenfeldt charged with failing to have control and driving on the wrong side.

Social Security report seeks fairer benefits for women

HEW Secretary Joseph Califano released a 323 page SSA study showing Social Security discriminates against women. It weighs two main options: equal credits for husbands and wives or a two tier system with a flat 122 monthly benefit at 65 plus earned worker benefits.
