Ren Frederick Kettler Dies After Brief Illness
Cedar Rapids resident Ren Frederick Kettler aged 56 a retired Western Union employee died at a local hospital at 1 40 p m Tuesday after a brief illness. Born March 21 1875 in Pieterburen Holland he came to Cedar Rapids from Detroit in 1904. Survived by two daughters Gertrude J Kettler and Mrs Albert C Pancratz both of Cedar Rapids.

Didn't Love Him Denise Told Maloy
Denise Lord told William Maloy she could not love him and their wedding planned for January 17 was postponed. The couple had talked by telephone while he looked for work after a layoff from Craemer's and had purchased Ace Auto Sales in Marion. William, born September 30 1937 in La Porte City, moved to Cedar Rapids as a child and served in the navy until May. He died recently, survived by his parents three sisters and two grandmothers.

Barta's Badge No 5 Retired by Cedar Rapids Police
Officer Felix Barta 52 fatally shot in the line of duty had his badge No 5 retired Wednesday by Police Chief Lester Woodward. Barta joined the Cedar Rapids force July 15 1943 and was a native of the city. Surviving are his wife and two children. Chief Woodward praised him as one of the best and most conscientious officers and noted the hazard of the job.
