A condemnation suit seeks 235 bags of Pike's Peak Bakers Flour held by Amana Society bakery in Cedar Rapids federal court. The flour shipped from Denver to South Amana is alleged adulterated by insects. 184 bags reportedly seized. claimants must appear March 2 at 10 a.m. to contest condemnation. Two bankruptcy petitions also filed by LaVerne and Marcella Soper of Clarence.
Patrice Lumumba's three children Francois nine Patrice seven and Juliana five were sent from their boarding school on an extended holiday at an undisclosed location. The director said precautions aim to shield them from news of their father's death as Mrs Lumumba and a baby son stay in the Congo.
AP reports 35 drowned after a boat carrying Hindu pilgrims capsized on the Machkud river near Bombay. Police said strong winds caused the vessel to overturn during the crossing, with women and children among the dead.
Police investigated a crash as Max R. Schwichtenberg drove from 804 Fifth St SE and hit a parked car at 1734 Mt Vernon Rd SE. His car struck a stop sign, breached a fence, and stopped in the front yard at 1705 Mt Vernon Rd SE after about 230 feet. Schwichtenberg cited steering failure. no charges were filed.
Richard A. Preston 85 of Cedar Rapids and former district court bailiff died at home Monday. Born April 22, 1875 in Mankato Minnesota he served in World War I with the 42nd Rainbow Division. Survived by wife Ona B. Wilson and a brother H. B. Preston. Services Thursday 1:30 pm at Beatty-Bearle's Bethany Congregational Church burial Oak Hill. Rainbow veterans to attend.

Adeline Oltman Clark of Hiawatha died in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a sudden illness. Born July 15, 1913 in Winona Minnesota she married Fay M. Clark May 10 1931 in Winona. Survived by husband two sons Patrick Alyn and Gerald Marvin Clark of Hiawatha mother Mrs Tena Stahlsmeier two sisters Ann Palmquist Minneapolis and Hannah Backus Virginia Beach Va a brother Herman Oltman Owatonna Minnesota and three grandchildren. Services at Turner Chapel time to be announced burial Cedar Memorial. Friends may call at the chapel.
Mrs. Cameron George G is to be buried at Cedar Memorial after a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday service conducted by Dr. Jackson Burns. William Ruel Haynes is to be buried at Linwood, with a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday service led by Rev. Earl Osnes and the Crescent Masonic lodge.
A district court issued a temporary injunction against the Cedar Rapids Building and Construction Trades Council and local 238 of the Teamsters union after 20 pickets threw rocks and attacked three Willman Co. employees at a warehouse project on Second Avenue SW. Judge Charles Penningroth granted the order, citing ongoing mass picketing and interference with work. Co defendants include Sven Hertel Harry Wilford Melvin J. Smith and John Zahorik.
Weldon Brothers of Iowa Falls won the Linn county bridge contract for the Cedar River crossing on the Center Point to Palo road. Bid was 308 750 96, about 91 000 under the 400 000 estimate. 11 bidders. Construction to start by April 3 and finish December 2. The 1030 foot concrete bridge carries a 28 foot roadway and was designed for Iowa primary road capacities. Costs funded from the county farm to market fund.

A separate break-in at Padzensky Auto Market salvage yard 601 Center Point Rd NE left papers scattered after glass in a door was broken.

The Oelwein City Council delayed action on a petition by 200 Wing’s Park area residents seeking reconsideration of the Planning Commission’s rejection of a school board site. In Philadelphia a 16 year old boy, Franklin Sutton, was found guilty of second degree murder for the March 21 killing of 17 year old John Campiglia, an honor student. The jury deliberated about two hours before the verdict, amid claims Sutton was among 12 youths who attacked Campiglia as he walked home.
