Jaycees name Jayce Wetjen 35 of Marengo Outstanding Young Farmer in Cedar Rapids area. He will be nominated for Iowa state honors. banquet speaker Kenneth Thatcher of Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Wetjen rebuilt a 120 acre farm west of Marengo, expanding livestock and machinery, quadrupling yields and implementing tile drainage, lime, and soil conservation measures. The award ceremony moves to Iowa City with national finals in Durham, North Carolina, April 15–16.

Iowa cigar tobacco growers voted unanimously to continue strict marketing quotas and price supports for the 1957 to 1959 crops. Northwood brothers Truman and Hamlin Holton and their landlord supported the proposal in a 12 state referendum near the Minnesota border. An allotment of 8.49 acres was set for the Holtons, who farmed 8.32 acres last year.

Leo W. Palmer of Palmer and Kemp, Landrace swine breeders, is honored by the American Landrace Association for three production tested star litters. Each litter must have eight or more pigs raised to 56 days with total litters weight at least 300 pounds. Palmer receives 5-star for 10 pigs 598 pounds, 5-star for 13 pigs 579 pounds, and 4-star for 9 pigs 420 pounds.

Floyd Booth farm sale yields $270 average for cows and heifers
Twelve head of grade Holstein cows and first calf heifers averaged 270 dollars per head at the Floyd Booth sale one mile east of the Hunter airport south of Cedar Rapids. Top cow sold for 320 dollars and a first calf heifer at 272.50. Open yearlings averaged 148.75 dollars to one buyer, with bred gifts up to 43 dollars per head.
