Cedar Rapids attorney John Monroe testified Tuesday in a custody trial over Cara Schmidt and her 2 year old daughter Jessica. Monroe described Cara as calm and informed when she signed the initial custody release 40 hours after birth, while Cara contested his account. The case centers on whether the Schmidts or an Ann Arbor couple should retain custody, with a trial scheduled for Monday in Linn County Juvenile Court.

Jarod Allgood a 21 year old Kirkwood Community College liberal arts student died after being hit by a westbound semi on Highway 30 near the Kirkwood Boulevard overpass. Police оfficers said no speed violation was evident and investigators will interview nearby business employees to determine why he was on the highway. His roommate Don Putz called the death puzzling and said police had not ruled out death by own action. Allgood was from Manchester and had transferred from the University of Northern Iowa.
