A Cedar Rapids area collision on a county road near La Porte City left Doris Kantor and Otilla Dobry dead and Barbara Kantor and Kenton Hutchison critically injured when their car struck a Rock Island passenger train en route Cedar Rapids to Manly. The crash occurred about 12 30 p m Thursday just inside the Benton county line. The four were named by Fry-Holland funeral home of Vinton. The train engineer was Floyd Turkel of Cedar Rapids.
A kitchen range explosion started a blaze that trapped four children on the second floor of a Wheeling home. Fire officials report all four perished in the fire on Thursday.
