Second Man Arrested in C R Burglary Probe

A second person, Kenneth James Hall and Lynne D Boots, were arrested and charged after police watched them leave a burglary scene. They fled the truck, were chased, and boots were arrested while Hall escaped briefly. They face charges including burglary and resisting arrest with bonds set at 20,125.

Two Charged With Breaking At Hotel Rooms

Two youths, Gary Wayne Cooper and a 17 year old, were charged with breaking and entering over thefts from Magnus hotel rooms Saturday night. Cooper faced additional drug possession counts and both suspects were arrested around 11:09 p.m. Some items valued at $53 and $183 were reported missing and later recovered in Cooper's room. Cooper remained jailed on a $5,500 bond Monday. the juvenile was released after 12 hours.

IDOT Plans Tree Planting Along I-380 in Cedar Rapids

The Iowa Department of Transportation will plant about 750 trees and over 2,000 shrubs along a 30 block section of I-380 from Thirty-third Avenue SW to Third Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. Bids are planned to be let in June. The project aims to beautify the corridor and reduce highway noise. officials hope to extend the planting through Hiawatha after completion.

Deputies Nab Four on Drunk Driving Charges

Linn County deputies arrested four people on drunk driving charges Sunday. A Mt. Vernon officer also arrested a fifth person Saturday. Lone D. Russell, 15, of 1840 Edgewood Road NW, allegedly drove erratically on Highway 94 at Wiley Boulevard and was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle. Michael K. Duffy, 23, of 53 Leisure Boulevard NE, was arrested after an accident on Highway 3 near the county home road. David J. Argotsinger, 20, of 1104 Brockman Drive SE, was taken after an investigation into an accident on Mt. Vernon Road SE. John V. Kilpatrick, 40, Route 1 Palo, allegedly drove erratically on Highway 4 near Covington. Kenneth R. Mentzer, 57, of 58 Fifteenth Street SE, was arrested after an investigation of an Mt. Cedar Rapids man found dead in garage in suspected carbon monoxide case

Edward Earl White age 38 of 1823 Hamilton Street SW Cedar Rapids died from carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday. Medical examiner cannot determine if suicide or accidental as alcohol level indicates heavy intoxication. He was found by a Cedar Rapids officer with his wife Jacqueline present during divorce proceedings. White, born November 13 1937, served in the Navy and worked for Harnischfeger. Survived by wife two sons a daughter his parents and four sisters. Services set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of Memories with burial at Cedar Memorial Cemetery and Hanford American Legion post honors. Friends may visit funeral home Tuesday afternoon and Chapel of Memories after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire damages Cedar Rapids home. investigation continues

A house fire on the northeast side damaged a frame dwelling at 507 Thirty fifth Street NE. Cedar Rapids firefighters reported smoke and roof damage with the kitchen area affected and the investigation ongoing. The owner is Rose Bentlins of 175 Miller Avenue SW. The blaze began around 9 49 a m Sunday.

Lauer Fined On Four Counts In Linn County Court

Seven charges filed January 19 against Cedar Rapids teen David George Lauer were addressed in the Linn County First Avenue division. He faced speeding, driving too fast for conditions, failure to yield, disobeying a stop sign, leaving the scene, and other traffic offenses with fines, jail days, and a mandatory 5000 word theme on driver conduct.
