WBZ Probe Details Payola Like Gift Cash For Exposure

Testimony centered on disk jockeys David Maynard and Alan Dary at WBZ who kept their jobs after a payola inquiry. They admitted accepting cash and gifts but claimed the payments were not payola and were suspended for five weeks then put on probation.

Both denied taking gifts to influence record choices, saying gifts were expressions of gratitude for playing records at teen-age hops and Christmas presents from business friends.

Albert Clarence Eddy, 70 years a Cedar Rapids resident for 37 years and a pharmacist at Schillig Drug, died in hospital Tuesday. Katherine Ilten, widow of Christopher Ilten and Cedar Rapids native until 1939, died Tuesday at her daughter Mrs Esther Ilten Joens home in Waterloo. Born March 11 1864 in Germany she came to Cedar Rapids in 1886 and married June 5 1890. Boy Walks for First Time Since Accident

Kevin Moburg a 10 year old Monmouth Illinois boy who was critically injured on November 1 when a pony he rode was hit by a car walked with crutches at a Burlington hospital. A good Samaritan fund has raised over 9000 dollars to aid his recovery as he hopes to go home this week once he learns to maneuver on crutches. His left leg was amputated after the crash.
