Chicago reports indicate butcher hogs sold steady to 25 cents lower in slow dealings. Estimated Saturday receipts include 100 cattle and 200 hogs with no sheep. Cattle market remained the weekend cleanup trade as markets quote grain via Lamson Brothers.
Hogs receipts about 5 500 with prices 25 cents lower for under 230 lb butchers and steady for heavier hogs. Cattle receipts around 700 with cleanup weekend ahead, prime steers near 25.00 and mixed loads at 23.00, heifers 18.00 to 21.00, cows 11.50 to 13.00, bulls 14.50 to 15.75. Sheep and lambs steady with good lambs at 19.00 to 20.50.
Des Moines market receipts Friday show 40 000 head, down from 48 000 last week and 73 000 year ago. Trading moderately active to slow with prices steady to 25 cents lower than Thursday, bulk 15 to 25 cents lower. Top price 17.60. Barrows and gilts by weight range listed from 14.50 to 17.60 for 160 to 360 plus pounds while sows across weights mostly 13.75 to 16.75.

Carrier Jim Johnson, 13, delivers papers to about 100 northeast Cedar Raids homes assisted by his nine year old collie Tippy. MISHAWAKA Ind AP A speeding car disintegrated against a tree scattering wreckage over a city block on the east outskirts. The driver Joseph Wachs 22 was killed. A patrolman said the third skid mark on the highway may have been part of the 1956 model car cropping off. Wreckage damaged two houses.

Recruiters in Cedar Rapids report five Eastern Iowans join the Army and one to the Marines. Enlistees headed to Fort Chaffee Arkansas for basic training. the five Army recruits include Richard L. Cedar Rapids residents suffered minor injuries Thursday after being struck by automobiles. Rickey Gatewood seven, of 717 Second Street NW, had a cut above the left eye after crossing E Avenue NW in front of a car driven by Louis Fry, 2406 Ellis Boulevard NW. Margaret Booze fifty, of 308 H Avenue NW, sustained bruises and abrasions while crossing F Avenue NW near Third Street as Gary Beam, 2215 Ninth Avenue SW, drove away after failing to yield to a pedestrian and was charged.
