U S Department of Agriculture combined hog receipts at 22 Iowa concentration yards and 9 packing plants in interior Iowa and southern Minnesota for 48 hours ended 8 am Monday. Totals were 41 890 head, up from 25 800 a week earlier and 1 600 year ago. Prices ranged with good and choice at 8 10 to 8 95 per cwt for light weights and advancing mostly 54 to 54 10 with under tone strong. Mrs. Pearl Beall Gifford 52 wife of H T Gifford of 1029 Fourth Avenue SE Cedar Rapids died at 5 30 a m Sunday in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a stroke Thursday night She was born east of Marion daughter of William Erastus and Della Upton Beall attended Marion schools and the Methodist church She was a member of Cedar chapter Eastern Star and charter member of the Concord Agricultural and Literary club She wed H T Gifford October 14 1910 they traveled the United States and Canada before settling in Cedar Rapids five years ago Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 30 p m in Yocom chapel with Rev E T Gough of the Methodist church officiating Burial will be in Oak Shade
Funeral services for pioneer Marion woman were held Sunday at the Yocom chapel. Rev H O Allen paid tribute to her welfare work as a large Marion Cedar Rapids crowd gathered. Pallbearers included Marley Clark Mount Vernon W K Lothian Verne Balster and A R McElwain of Marion with Miss Mame Haight Cedar Falls among out of town mourners.

Robert Goodyear was discharged from St Luke's hospital Saturday after undergoing an operation ten days earlier.
Donations to the Red Cross flood relief fund come in through the Service club and Home Building and Loan offices. The total received to date is 1029 dollars and 29 cents. New contributors since Saturday noon include the Womens Auxiliary to the Railway Mail association giving 5 dollars, Past Noble Grand association 2 dollars, Mr and Mrs George Pierce 2 dollars, and individuals Joe Brown and Gertrude M. Crew 1 dollar each.
E C Kemnitz reported his brother Theodore Kemnitz in Louisville flood zone wrote of moving from a flooded basement. The letter also described Carl Phom and his family who had to relocate twice due to rising water.
Kent Golden, son of Mrs. Bess Golden of 479 Tenth Street, who was taken to St Luke's hospital Friday for treatment, is reported improved.
The K B B class of the Methodist church scheduled for tonight at the home of Mrs. J E Cippera has been indefinitely postponed.

Marion residents learn of Mrs. A. J. Campbell of Atkins who underwent emergency surgery Sunday night at St Luke's hospital. She is not allowed visitors. The Campbell family once lived in Marion.

Charles T. Rowe freight and passenger agent for the Milwaukee railroad has been ill with the flu the past week and on Monday was reported to be making satisfactory recovery.
Out of town relatives attended the funeral in Denver where Mrs. T. T. Williams died. Attendees included Mrs. Arnold Minnig of Denver and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Williams of Chicago along with Mrs. E. G. Houseman of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hibner of Chicago. Pallbearers were Dr. L. C. Dow K. W. Lothian Starr Klink and Karl Kendall.
Mr and Mrs Charles Hibner returned to Chicago after visiting two days with Mrs George M Hibner to attend the funeral of Mrs T T Williams, the Hibner’s aunt.
Judge H C Ring heard O W Harper’s appeal from a note suit against James Downing. A justice court jury awarded the defendant 57.50 on a 99.50 counterclaim while honoring the note claim. The counterclaim involves damages tied to occupancy of property leased from the plaintiff.

The will of Thomas Wilmott who died January 28 was admitted to probate in district court on Monday. The testator named his wife and children as beneficiaries. Executors named are B. H. Willmott and Bertha M. Hart. The will bears date November 24, 1919 and codicil November 20, 1931.

Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes denied newspaper reports that he would back a substitute for President Roosevelt s court plan that would retire justices at age 75. Clerk C Elmore Cropley announced the denial noting no foundation for such statements and indicating no personal appearance before Congress was planned.

Families of the Squaw Creek neighborhood gathered at Mr and Mrs Lewis Wurster home for a picnic dinner. Wurster showed a motion picture Little Black Sambo and planning two week gathering at the Elkin home to celebrate Mrs Sam Fernow and Mr Elkin birthdays and the Wurster anniversary with many neighbors in attendance.
The Union Pacific City of Denver passenger train derailed near Orchard Colorado early Monday. The rear two cars left the tracks but remained upright. Several passengers were bruised and shaken but no serious injuries were reported.
