Help at Button Press Aims to Keep Elderly Homebound
Cedar Rapids adds two emergency alert systems Medical Sentry and Lifelines to aid the elderly and disabled living at home. Medical Sentry uses 24 hour nurse staffed dispatch with home visits supported by a waterproof pendant. Lifelines will be volunteer staffed with a $10 monthly rental and 450 dollar unit costs. Both systems place a call to a dispatch center when the pendant button is pressed and aim to reduce hospital visits by enabling rapid response and access to medical records.
