Lester Meyers of Westbrook Minnesota was seriously injured when his southbound car collided with a northbound vehicle at the Milwaukee railroad crossing three miles north of Elkader as a train approached. Meyers suffered facial cuts eye injury head wound and other injuries. The Scepples in the other car had minor injuries. Sheriff Forrest Fischer investigated the crash.
Sen. Proxmire says he will introduce a bill making outside payments and gifts to FCC members a crime. He criticizes President Eisenhower for allegedly allowing such favors and seeks penalties up to $5,000 fine and one year in jail for officials accepting gifts or honorariums.
John and Ruth Hug allege in Linn County District Court that Arnold's Construction Company caused $1,500 in property damage when a tree fell on an American elm while being removed from adjacent property on October 25. They seek a jury trial and damages for diminished property value and usefulness.
An injunction restraining the Iron Workers union local 89 AFL CIO and Business Agent John Zahorik was issued Friday. F E Binney, builder of a commercial building at 515 Eighth Ave SE, sought action after local pickets appeared Wednesday and Cedar Rapids Block Co truck drivers refused to cross the line to deliver materials.
Keith R. Akers aged 19 of 1309 Fifteenth Street SE received a bench parole from a 10 year reformatory sentence after pleading guilty to breaking and entering. Police said Akers and a 15 year old accomplice admitted 13 breakins since October, with arrest on January 25 by officers led by Judge Charles Penningroth.
A 21 year old married man, Lewis J. Dittmar of route 2, entered a plea of innocent on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was arraigned in Linn district court after police said he was found Thursday at 11 p.m. in a parked car with a 13 year old girl, who had been reported missing by her brother at 8:30 p.m.
Ralph Burkle Friday secured two judgments totaling 1791.41 against Ray and Helen Gogel for farm rent operating expenses and a promissory note.
Moscow maintains a restrained stance on the Egypt Syria merger as Izvestia reports steps toward forming the new state. The Kremlin avoids fanfare and omits celebratory messages to the United Arab States on the union’s progress.

Jack Hian's father F L Illian 73 of Des Moines died in a Des Moines hospital Friday. He was a pioneer Benton county automobile dealer born in Keystone who moved to Des Moines in 1922. Surviving wife three sons and three daughters, a sister and a brother. Services at Dunn's funeral home Des Moines 10 am Saturday and Keystone Cemetery 2 30 p.m.

Ruth Hazel Harding 58 died Thursday after a long illness at Cedar Rapids residence 41 years. Born August 19 1885 in Keswick she married July 23 1913 in Minneapolis. Survived by husband one niece and three nephews. Member First Christian church Malta chapter No 415 CBS. Services at Turner chapel 1 30 p m Monday by Rev Jack Oliver. Henry George Wagner 1339 First Ave SE Cedar Rapids died Friday after a brief illness. Born December 28 1887 in Waterloo he was a Cedar Rapids resident 39 years and a retired Rock Island railroad employee. Survived by wife Lucile Olmstead daughter Gaylen Sell son Kenneth six sisters. Services 10:30 a.m. Monday Turner Chapel Burial Cedar Memorial. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce honored Maude Krebs for nearly 55 years of city hall service retiring as city clerk. Vice-president Hines praised her leadership and loyalty to the community, noting her role in registration and her friendly service through Cedar Rapids’ growth. The ceremony included a tribute by city officials and a film program about a European family trip.
Collins Radio Company announced a schedule of Explorer satellite passes within range of Eastern Iowa. Predicted times Friday evening 6 25 and 8 25 with the latter deemed doubtful. Passes extend through Monday with times listed and estimated accuracy within two to three minutes. Signals should be heard at 108 03 megacycles for about ten minutes per pass.
Milton B. Conhaim announced in New York City that The Killian Company of Cedar Rapids received a 1957 merit award for outstanding achievement in department store advertising. The certificate cites best impact for the total store through newspaper ads. Beulah Marsh is promotions manager and Patty Chadima, retiring, was advertising manager in 1957.
Anna Katherine Bernd 82 died from burns after a kitchen fire at her Iowa City home. She was dead on arrival at a local hospital after suffering burns over most of her body. Fire officials said she was alone when the robe caught fire from a gas stove and the blaze was confined to bedding despite dense smoke. Services set for Saturday at 2 30 p m at Manson Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter Doris and another daughter Lela, a son Roger, and a brother and sisters.
Iowa City officials expect no junior high bond issue on the March 10 ballot. Two alternate proposals may appear later with petitions under review. The School Study Council backs a 1,427,000 bond for a new junior high and renovations, while a 375,000 bond addition plan awaits petition readiness for board action.
