SPACE CENTER AP Alan Shepard extends U S lunar records with a nine hour three minute stay on the moon in a Friday to Saturday mission. He becomes the oldest man on the moon at 47, surpassing Charles Conrad and Edgar Mitchell whose two walks totaled eight hours and 24 minutes.
District Court Judge Ansel Chapman set March 5 for a hearing on all motions in a suit challenging sex education programs in Iowa City junior high schools. Parties must file briefs by March 3. The suit, filed by about 90 people last December, alleges constitutional rights violations and harm to children's moral standards. Defendants include Iowa City Superintendent James Reusswig, two junior high principals, the board of education, course instructors, and the Iowa Board of Public Instruction.
Courthouse closes for Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays. Monday is the final day to apply for marriage licenses for couples planning weekend weddings. Licenses are issued at the clerk's office on the courthouse second floor with hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week.
Iowa State University alumni announce the Dennis K. Martin Memorial Loan Fund to aid undergraduate engineering students with preference to chemical engineering. Army Spec. 4c Martin, a 1968 chemical engineering graduate, was killed in Vietnam last summer. His widow Sue, also a 1968 ISU graduate, resides at 256 Thirty-second Street NW. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Martin of 2154 F Avenue NE. Mrs. Martin donated her husband’s reference books to the chemical engineering reading room.

Leon C. Lacy of Stanwood was charged for failing to yield after turning in front of Maxine Santee’s car on Fourth Avenue and First Street SW. Santee, 42, was treated for a head laceration. Gillespie, 17, of Marion faced a charge for losing control at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, colliding with Scott Brees. he suffered a minor concussion and abrasions. A sled accident left Michael Homsey with hip injuries. a swerving driver struck his sled and a parked car. Barbara Elam pulled away to avoid the boy, delivering a collision to the parked vehicle registered to Willard Goddard. No charges filed. Walter Cheney, 27, was admitted to Mercy Hospital with rib, skull, and shoulder injuries after a collision involving an Iowa Electric three-ton pickup and a milk truck. The milk truck sustained about $3,000 damage. the utility truck $1,500. No charges. The milk tandem entered C Street SW from River Road in the 8:45 a.m. crash.
Five members of the Dan Blocker Singers were killed and three injured in a Friday night three vehicle crash near London Arkansas. Victims were Hart Jackson 24 Loren Norman 25 Sinon Ganju 26 Tony O Neal 21 and Angus Mc Masters 21. Injured were Shawn Pepper 21 Mike Alsup 27 and Sid Eudy 22.
The Iowa State Highway Commission will auction ten houses and seven garages acquired for the Interstate 380 project in Cedar Rapids. Bids begin March 6 at 9:30 a.m. at 301 Twenty-sixth Ave SW with cash terms and a $250 performance bond for each house.
Detectives investigate a Saturday morning shooting of 28 year old Kenneth Oliver of 715 Sixth Street SE in Cedar Rapids. Oliver was beaten and shot with a small caliber weapon, entered Mercy Hospital in a taxicab and was placed in the intensive care unit in satisfactory condition with the bullet lodged near his neck. no motive or assailant identified.
A block-long warehouse on the edge of the French Quarter burned Saturday and spread to three adjacent buildings before firefighters gained control. One fireman was injured and several others suffered smoke inhalation as crews battled the blaze.
Margaret P Dauffenbach 67 of 3014 Dalewood SE Cedar Rapids died Friday after a long Cedar Rapids residency. Born 1903 in Harrison county Missouri she married Albert Dauffenbach in 1927. George Chaloupka 65 of 211 26th Ave SW Cedar Rapids died snow shovel accident. Born 1905 in Ely he lived in Cedar Rapids since 1932 retired W R Grace Cryovac. Anthony Catanzaro 76 died at home at 2631 Meadowbrook drive SE Friday while shoveling snow. Born March 17, 1894 in Burlington he lived in Cedar Rapids 66 years. Survived by brother Martin and sisters Rose Caito and Mary Jefferies. Services Monday 10:30 a.m. Stewart funeral home with Rev. A L Zachar. Burial Mt Calvary cemetery. Dennis Kraft aged 32 was named Iowa City director of community development at 17 400 dollars per year by City Manager Frank Smiley. Formerly Johnson County Regional Planning Commissioner he succeeds Donald Best who resigned. Kraft holds degrees from Augustana College and Southern Illinois University and is completing a master’s thesis in urban planning at the University of Iowa. He will start March 15.
Albert Zalesky 77 of 210 Nineteenth Street NE was found dead Friday afternoon beside his car near his apartment after the vehicle became stuck. A lifelong Cedar Rapids resident born December 12, 1893, he married Relo Doubrnsky in 1919, served in World War I, and retired as manager of the order and billing department at Penick and Ford in 1960. He attended the University of Michigan and Philadelphia University, was active in Mt. Herman lodge AF and AM, Cedar Rapids Consistory, Hanford American Legion Post, and the Philatelic Society, with two daughters and five grandchildren surviving. Services are at Turner Chapel East, burial Oak Hill Cemetery. flowers omitted.
Gen William Westmoreland and his wife arrived in New Delhi to begin a week long goodwill visit. The trip marks a ceremonial mission with meetings planned at the Indian capital and related cultural exchanges.

Eleanore English widow of Matthew English and Cedar Rapids resident from 1935 to 1969 died Friday in Monticello at age 84.
