SUI Commencement Urges Integrity and Courageous Compassion

Iowa City The Rev Rankin urged 470 University of Iowa graduates to resist simply fitting into society and pursue integrity and honest leadership. President Hancher warned intellect alone fails without stamina, noting 149 advanced degrees, including 41 PhDs, were awarded across colleges such as law pharmacy nursing business liberal arts and engineering.

A 3 acre tract in Des Moines was donated to the Horace Mann Home Inc for a retirement home for Iowa teachers. The gift from Lillian Heathershaw Darnell and Jeannette Heathershaw memorializes Mae Heathershaw and Nelle Heathershaw, both long time educators. Announcement came at the Iowa State Education Assn delegate assembly in Des Moines.
