In Chicago hog prices rose to 25.75 per hundred, nearing the record 27.50 set in mid October after price controls ended. Market activity showed steadier to firmer prices with some locations 25 to 50 cents higher.
Receipts show 6 500 hogs 9 000 calves and 7 500 vealers across markets with modest falls in slaughterer bids. Prices range with hogs steady to higher for bulk, cattle mixed with steers and heifers mostly steady, canners and cutters lower, slaughter lamb bids down yet wool lambs steady around 23 75.
Receipts totalled cattle 75 head with slaughter steers and heifers selling slow while early sale around 25 cents per pound, many bids at 50 cents. Cows suitable for shipping moved to major packers, stockers and feeders slow. Hogs 11,500. sheep 7,500. prices and bids mixed with weak trends for certain classes as buyers retreat.
Combined receipts at 19 concentration yards and 11 packing plants in interior Iowa and southern Minnesota for the 34 hours ended at 8 a.m. Thursday were 47,800, up from 20, a week ago and 36,500 a year ago. Prices cited: 24.50 to 24.25 with modest variation.

Damian left Wheatland in 1932 to seek work and was later found alive by his sister Mrs Ann Damian after 13 years.

Prince Rupert B C A W Allaire a local sportsman fought a wounded moose in the Skeena river country about 140 miles east of here. He wounded the animal with shot then fired again after the gun emptied. The moose charged struck him hurled him 20 feet into a fallen tree before Allaire reloaded and killed the animal with a final shot.
