Peters Whips Burds in Gloves Feature at Cedar Rapids

In Memorial coliseum Cedar Rapids Open division bouts on Tuesday night opened the 1958 Golden Gloves. Duane Fatka stood out among newcomers with promising showings as Lehman and Gorden delivered big wins. Attendance reached 1,504 paid admissions, 87 more than last year, with finals scheduled next Tuesday at 7 30 p m and tickets on sale at local outlets.

John Meyer reports at the 23rd Cedar Rapids Golden Gloves opening at Memorial Coliseum. In the Novice division Stephen Walton dazzled with a 1 minute 33 second stoppage, while Jim Thomas of Anamosa and Mike Schackenbach of Davenport advanced to the Novice finals with decisive wins. Walton posted the fastest KO of the night in 18 seconds and several others secured key victories advancing toward finals as the field narrows.
