DeSales led by Murphy with 44 points to defeat Randalia 74-58 as Beman scored 25 for Randalia. In the other game Maynard beat Clermont Elgin 58-44 with Carolyn Nicholson scoring 25 and Sandra Olson adding 24 for Clermont Elgin.

In Lime Springs Protivin edged Elma 41 to 33 to reach the sectional final and Notre Dame defeated Lime Springs 60 to 41. Martinek poured in 32 for Protivin while Bickford had 31 for Notre Dame and Judy Lloyd scored 21 for Lime Springs. Aurora beat Stanley 71 to 69 in overtime as Lamont topped Dundee 51 to 36.

Local girls hoops set for sectional final showdown

North English and Millersburg clash for the sectional title after semifinal wins. The Cedar Rapids speed skating season ends Sunday with the Cedar Rapids Open championships at 2 p.m. on the Roosevelt rink. If warm weather, the meet moves to the Manhattan rink and awards 12 trophies to skaters with the most points in each division.

Conlan to Speak at Cedar Rapids Elks Night

John B. Jocko Conlan will be the speaker at the Cedar Rapids Elks sports night on February 16. The longtime umpire and former White Sox center fielder in 1935 has officiated in four All-Star games and four World Series and will conduct March baseball clinics for U S service members in Germany.
