Kopecky seeks new trial in Pledge case
Linn County Attorney Eugene Kopecky said the office will study files in the Isaac Pledge Jr. case to decide if there is sufficient evidence for another trial. The Iowa Supreme Court denied review of a Court of Appeals ruling ordering a new trial due to involuntary confession. The 3-2 appeals ruling found Pledge’s statement and derived evidence cannot be used, citing low intelligence and reading difficulties. The county will have 90 days to bring Pledge to trial after the denial.
