Winter Storm Smashes Great Lakes Area with Heavy Snow
Strong westerly winds drove snow squalls across the lower Great Lakes. Lake Erie shores saw heavy snow and near zero visibility in Erie Pennsylvania where over a foot covered the ground. Northwestern Pennsylvania reported two feet. Michigan light snow continued with two inches at Muskegon and three at South Bend Indiana. Sub zero readings stretched across the upper Mississippi Valley to lower Michigan as Gulf Coast states saw frigid readings in the 20s to teens. The western U.S. enjoyed fair weather with teens in the Rockies and Great Basin, while the Pacific Northwest was foggy and cool. California and Southwest deserts logged 40s.

Woman pleads guilty to lesser charge in shooting
A 29 year old Cedar Rapids woman Gwendolyn J Tubbs pleaded guilty to assault with intent to inflict serious injury aggravated misdemeanor after the county attorney agreed to drop the willful injury felony charge in the shooting of David L Walton 20. Walton was hospitalized with leg injuries and facing second degree burglary charges. Sentencing set for March 13 following presentence review.
