J Milton Moore compares Rome’s collapse to modern society at Cedar Rapids Parents and Teachers banquet. He cites arms, religion, family, and pleasure as Rome’s four causes and urges Sermon on the Mount values to strengthen America’s youth and moral fiber.
A 32 year veteran social worker cautioned that one in ten marriages ends in divorce and 72 percent of juvenile court cases stem from broken homes. He urged parents to be firm and present after school hours, balancing duty with warmth, and criticized reliance on schools to solve family issues. He warned Americans avoid the duty mindset and stressed home happiness as the key to reducing juvenile crime. Onslow couple notes anniversary with 30 guests in Marion at the Munier home.
Mr and Mrs Merrill R Lund hosted a dinner for 18 guests Saturday at the Roosevelt hotel in observance of their 20th wedding anniversary.
Coe faculty members will honor Dr. and Mrs. Russell Cole of Mt. Vernon at a coffee in the east gallery of Coe auditorium after Dr. Cole's convocation address to the student body. The event follows his resignation as Cornell president and features his talk titled A College President Looks at Russia. The 10 20 a m convocation is open to the public, said co president Dr Joseph E McCabe. Dr and Mrs Cole returned last fall from a tour of Russia.
A pink and blue shower honoring Mrs Keith Millard of Luzerne was given Sunday in the home of Miss Juanita Soukup and Miss Maurita Soukup, 1273 Thirty second st NE. Co-hostesses were Miss Kathy Mikulecky and Miss Sharon Mikulecky, 2674 Fruitland Blvd SW. Eighteen guests attended.
Joyce Iverson was elected president with Pam Cerny as vice president Miss Shields as secretary and Jeannie Koza as treasurer at a Monday meeting held at Cathy Shields home. A founders day luncheon report was given to Watchword circle and a box social followed. Mizpah circle met with 13 members present and voted $20 to the elevator fund.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd L. Peck of Springville will mark their 25th wedding anniversary with a Sunday reception from 2 to 4 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Marion. They were married February 9, 1935, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. The Pecks have five children: David of Marion, Dale of Central City, Daniel, Anna Mae and Ellen.
Mrs. John Allis spoke on fabrics and fashions before Xi Delta chapter members in the ORC building sorority rooms while the group met Monday evening.
Ruth Brammer bride elect of Philip Paine of Dallas was honored at a brunch and miscellaneous shower hosted by Mrs. Voelkers at 1433 Twenty-fifth St. SE. Co-hostesses were Miss Leone Corkery and Miss Jeanne Ferring. twenty five guests attended. arrangements featured white mums turquoise carnations and yellow tapers. The wedding will be at Trinity Lutheran church.
Walker senior Sharon Marie Wiltsey topped a 50 minute homemaking exam for graduating senior girls. She will receive an award pin bearing the slogan Home Is Where the Heart Is and is the daughter of Fred Wiltsey and the late Mrs Wiltsey.

They met Monday at leader Mrs Robert Trachta 2911 Russell Dr NE. Wa Ki Da group held a council fire Monday eight members received honor beads. The group met with leader Mrs George Chmelicek 2110 Haven Court SW.

Ayoutakonya members enjoyed supper after an ice skating party at Mrs Clarence Reding 1140 Cave NW. Ka-Tan-Da Polk school group held a party at Mrs Byron Richardson 216 Seventeenth St NE planned by Terryl Van Dyke Janet Churchill and Barbara Naden ahead of passing rank.
New York report confirms Mrs Steven Rockefeller is expecting a child. Steven Rockefeller, son of Governor Nelson A Rockefeller, announced the news while awaiting Anne Marie’s arrival from her visit to her parents’ home in Norby O-Ki-No-Wa group at Idlewild.
