Capitol Notebook: Iowa land purchase limits move ahead

At the Iowa Capitol the Senate advanced a bill to bar the Iowa Department of Natural Resources from buying land via competitive bids. Opponents argued the language is too broad and would block real estate agents. Supporters from the Farm Bureau argued government should not compete with Iowans. The panel also advanced preschool funding and tougher penalties for assaults on prison staff, with multiple subcommittee votes paving paths for full committee action.
