Miller holds off Nicklaus to win San Diego Open by one stroke
Johnny Miller defended his San Diego Open title by firing a 18 under 270 to beat Jack Nicklaus by one stroke at Torrey Pines. Nicklaus eagled 9 and 18 to post 271 as Miller topped Tom Kite and Weiskopf, with Curtis Strange at 274 and Andy Bean 275. this marked Miller's first San Diego Open victory and his tour's last winter stop.
