Coralville dam project stirs Iowa political backing
Fronted as a federal funded $6 million dam on the Iowa River Johnson and Iowa counties faces state hurdles. The attorney general allows federal construction with no state action needed though the conservation commission would have to approve. The commission has rejected it over backwash risk to Lake Macbride. Labor groups back the dam for jobs while backers push an undercover push for Col Hanford MacNider as a presidential candidate. Iowa WPA chief Keller endorses the MacNider bid and Gov Wilson has not committed.
