1948 Boomed Economy Mirrors Record U S Outputs
The year 1948 saw record farm receipts of about 30.8 billion, while total national output reached 253 billion dollars with wages around 132 billion and dividends, profits, and rents rising. Consumer goods demand remained strong despite high prices, and construction, steel, and retail activity hit peace time highs, signaling a prosperous year for Americans. Farmers posted record crops and feed grain totals, though livestock production faced some weakness from corn shortages. Overall 1948 was a successful year with expectations of easier living costs and cautious optimism for 1949.
