Iowa farmers faced drought but saw some corn gains in 1976
Agriculture expert Ray Halley notes 1976 in Iowa was the driest June through November on record. Corn yields were the bright spot, with production over one billion bushels, while overall receipts rose about two percent from 1975 and soybean yields averaged 31 bushels per acre. The year featured grain inspection changes, a new beef grading system, and World Food Conference events at Iowa State University during the Bicentennial.
