Jobs Bill To House On Jan 4 Megalift for Carter plan aims at 610000 jobs
Democratic leaders disclosed the first element of President-elect Jimmy Carters job creating program. House Majority Leader Jim Wright said a bill would be introduced when Congress convenes January 4 to expand the existing program of federal aid to states for public works. The package could total about 10 to 15 billion dollars, with at least another 2 billion added to the current 2 billion. Wright stressed details depend on Carter and congressional leaders, and the plan will prioritize areas with severe economic problems. He noted discussions with Carter and indicated the new extension will not preempt other stimulus elements. He expected a 19 day window for further review with Carter to determine the best mix for dollars invested.
