Reasonable Meat Prices May Exceed Record Highs
The Hut the American Meat Institute warned that what counts as reasonable prices may reach new records in 1977. Beef and pork prices are forecast to average about 10 cents higher than 1976, with daily rates possibly surpassing the 1975 peak. Industry insiders cite reduced cattle herds and rising pork supplies as key factors, along with a strong corn crop keeping feed cheap. Economic improvements could boost consumer spending on food next year.
