Iowa employers to save with new jobless tax rules
Gov. Ray announced Iowa employers will save about 959 thousand dollars in unemployment taxes under a rule change by Job Service of Iowa. The altered method allows late second-quarter payments until September 30 to be counted for next year’s tax rate, reducing the previous double penalty for late payments. The move aims to ease burdens on businesses amid a sluggish economy. Ray also spoke on potential local option taxes and a proposed longer waiting period before marriage.
