Three recruiting stations in Cedar Rapids move locations on Tuesday. The navy and marine corps will share a new joint office at 410 Third Avenue SE, across from Greene Square, with separate phones. Two Des Moines Men Charged in Jail Escape Case

Des Moines police charged Harold Eugene Stewart 29 and James William Bennett 28 with aiding escapee Robert James McCrea 19 from Marshalltown jail. McCrea and Pelham 36 remain at large. Reeder 24 was captured after their car wreck near Durant. Bennett reportedly drove to Mitchellville and brought McCrea and Pelham to Des Moines.

Floods Stranded North Coast as Food Scarcity Persist

Lisbon AP reports rescue workers located the sunken wreck of a Japanese trawler missing since December 10 off Portuguese West Africa. The discovery ends a search that covered the Atlantic region, with authorities awaiting details on crew safety and ship status.

Drunk Surrenders to Police on Christmas Eve

John Steward, 29, a construction foreman in Birmingham, told police he was drunk and driving. He surrendered at the station and pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. Magistrate Barwell fined 40 pounds and barred him from driving for two years.

VA briefing on pension law gains for Helena area veterans

A Veterans Administration representative from Des Moines briefed pensioners in Cedar Rapids on new pension provisions effective Jan 1. Ralph Neppel of Iowa City will also visit Linn county courthouse room six on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The changes ease limits on income for eligibility and allow exclusion of certain funds when calculating annual income. Vinton Woman Sentenced for False Uttering

Imogene M. Floyd, 43, of Vinton, was sentenced by Judge Charles Penningroth to seven years in the Rockwell City women's reformatory and probation after pleading guilty to a charge of false uttering a check. She allegedly wrote a bogus $50 check June 26 at Sears Roebuck in Cedar Rapids.

Restrictions Off on Gls at Clark Field

American servicemen were allowed out of Clark air base after a weekend of restrictions from the U. S. air force following a protest rally in Angeles calling for removal of U S bases and Blair's recall. About 2 000 Filipinos attended. no violence occurred amid accusations of a bomb plot and a WWII mortar shell investigation. Local officials urged calm as investigations continued.
