Berlin AP report says two trains collided near Waltershausen in Thuringia injuring 11 passengers. East German ADN reported the accident occurred Monday.
Lisbon AP reports rescue workers located the sunken wreck of a Japanese trawler missing since December 10 off Portuguese West Africa. The discovery ends a search that covered the Atlantic region, with authorities awaiting details on crew safety and ship status.
Funeral services are planned for Rich ard J. Keogh 42 of Estherville at St Patrick's on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St Patrick's cemetery with rosary Monday. His wife Patricia injured in a Wichita crash. son Scott Robert 13 unharmed. Keogh, Sears employee, formerly worked at multiple stores and served in World War II. Also listed: Frank B. Lucille Zuber Leffingwell 49 of 2243 Bever Ave SE Cedar Rapids widow of H W Leffingwell died Saturday at Lake Bluff Illinois. Born June 10 1915 at West Amana she was secretary treasurer of Butterfield Electric Co. Surviving mother Dora Zuber and brothers Ralph Elmer Zuber Amana. Funeral set for 1:30 p m Tuesday at First Church of Christ Scientist Cedar Rapids chapel. Burial Cedar Memorial. casket not opened after service.
Winifred Williams Holmes age 74 of Long Beach California died Saturday. Born May 11 1890 in Cedar Rapids she moved to Long Beach 14 years ago. Survived by husband George B Holmes daughter Mrs Douglas Dyer two grandchildren and two sisters Mrs James F Plumb and Mrs Delbert Vetter. Memorial service 1 30 p m Saturday Turner chapel Rev Allen S Van Cleve Central Park Presbyterian church burial Oak Hill cemetery.
Henry Clay McMahon 86 of Cedar Rapids and former 824 Fourth Street NW died Monday. Born in Defiance March 21, 1878 he worked for B C R and N and Milwaukee Railroad retiring years ago. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. His wife Mary died in 1946. Services at Rohn Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 30 p m conducted by Rev Wade S Koons with services at the funeral home Monday evening.
Mrs. Jennie S. Zollinger former Cedar Rapids resident died Saturday in Long Beach California after a brief illness. Survivors include a sister Mrs. Arthur Baxter of Cedar Rapids. Funeral and burial will be in Long Beach.
Mary Lou Washington 45 of 327 Ninth Avenue SE Cedar Rapids died suddenly Monday. Born November 1 1919 in Panama City Florida she married Eddie Washington February 23 1936. Survived by husband four daughters nine grandchildren four sisters and four brothers. Memorial services set at Bethel AME Church with arrangements at Turner Chapel.
Mrs LeMar Vannest a former Cedar Rapids resident died at her San Antonio home Saturday after a brief illness. Born December 27 1907 in Williamsburg she had lived in San Antonio eight years. Survived by husband four brothers and two sisters including LaVina Mc Gillicuddy of Cedar Rapids. Services Wednesday at Post Chapel San Antonio burial Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Friends may visit after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Brady Mortuary. Charles Popper will be honored at Immaculate Conception Church with Msgr William Roach officiating at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial is at Mt Calvary cemetery. Parish Rosary is Monday at 7 30 p.m. at Brady Mortuary where friends may call.
John Steward, 29, a construction foreman in Birmingham, told police he was drunk and driving. He surrendered at the station and pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. Magistrate Barwell fined 40 pounds and barred him from driving for two years.
Fifth steel maker National Steel Corp joined four others to raise the mill price of carbon and high strength galvanized sheet by six dollars per ton. The increase applies to sheets from its Weirton West Virginia plant and Portage Indiana mill, affecting about 5.2 percent of output and signaling broader price hikes for galvanized sheet.
In Mo Cai near Saigon a Viet Cong grenade wounded four Americans and 15 Vietnamese, and killed a 12 year old girl. American Van Bucher in critical condition. Viet Nam commander Khanh sent a holiday message to U.S. forces praising their support while resisting U.S. demands to restore civilian authority. Meanwhile most wounded from the Saigon hotel bombings were released. a few remained in good condition.
New York AP. Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, renowned cardiovascular surgeon who operated on the Duke of Windsor, urges the Johnson administration to fund a $2.9 billion national program to accelerate research on heart disease cancer and strokes. The plan follows a presidential commission he led.
A Veterans Administration representative from Des Moines briefed pensioners in Cedar Rapids on new pension provisions effective Jan 1. Ralph Neppel of Iowa City will also visit Linn county courthouse room six on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The changes ease limits on income for eligibility and allow exclusion of certain funds when calculating annual income. Ernest L. Hagerman, 42, of Des Moines, serving a five day contempt sentence at Linn county jail after surrendering Saturday. Jail check showed a warrant issued December 1 by District Judge William Eads for failure to make child support payments. last payment was November 13.
Imogene M. Floyd, 43, of Vinton, was sentenced by Judge Charles Penningroth to seven years in the Rockwell City women's reformatory and probation after pleading guilty to a charge of false uttering a check. She allegedly wrote a bogus $50 check June 26 at Sears Roebuck in Cedar Rapids.
American servicemen were allowed out of Clark air base after a weekend of restrictions from the U. S. air force following a protest rally in Angeles calling for removal of U S bases and Blair's recall. About 2 000 Filipinos attended. no violence occurred amid accusations of a bomb plot and a WWII mortar shell investigation. Local officials urged calm as investigations continued.
