Iowa works to reduce structurally deficient bridges across state
Des Moines Iowa officials report progress fixing structurally deficient bridges. DOT Director Mark Lowe says funding cut the number from 256 in 2006 to 51 last year and projected 46 by year end. About 1.5 percent of about 24 000 bridges remain deficient as the state plans a $3.4 billion highway program with $1.8 billion for modernization and safety. Lowe spoke during a budget hearing as Reynolds prepares a two year plan.
