Pilot Al Constance was seriously injured and rescued by Odessa La Fevre, a 23 year old beauty parlor operator, who leapt from her riding horse to pull him from the wreckage. The passenger McCoy Sanders, 28, died. La Fevre searched the wreck for others, then swam back to shore with Constance and recovered Sanders an hour later after officials confirmed the victim remained entangled in the wreckage.
