United States customs postal authorities and the navy joined in a coastwide push to smash espionage activity after three mysterious letters were seized from the Tatsuta Maru. The letters reportedly referenced Bremerton yard and Japanese stamps violated postal rules, and must remain sealed for two months during condemnation proceedings.
Pan American officials said an armored truck will meet the China Clipper at Alameda to guard film from the Panay bombing and sinking. The footage shot by Norman Alley aboard the clipper will be transported to Oakland, then by chartered plane to New York, with Alley and six government secret service operatives aboard.
