Woman 53 Dies When Car Hits Train Crossing
A collision on a snow packed county road crossing six miles northwest of here killed Marvel Gonnermann a 53 year old resident of Nemaha Indiana. She was alone in the car when it struck the side of a North Western freight engine causing temporary locomotive disablement. Authorities report it was Wednesday when the fatal crash occurred.

Forty-Six Prisoners Paroled Before Christmas in Iowa
DES MOINES AP Forty six inmates at the state's correctional institutions were released on parole this month before Christmas. Secretary Russell Bobzin of the State Parole Board said processing moves allowed parole for all inmates ordered paroled through February. None were life term cases. One man was serving a 70 year term and another 40 years. A total of 52 inmates were paroled last December. He cited steel and packing house strikes as factors reducing this year's parole total.

Traer Legion backs $30,000 for new community building
Kubik Finch post of the American Legion in Traer votes 40 to 10 to donate $30,000 from its permanent trust fund toward a $60,000 community building. The town must raise the remaining half by bond issue or gifts. Plans call for tearing down the 1906 Opera house to build a new community facility with an architect to prepare costs and specs.

Iowa Woman Killed In Two Car Crash
Ida Wil lock, 57, of Des Moines, was killed in a two car collision on highway 206 near Lacona. Her son Harold, 20, and Donald Goring, 17, both of Lacona, were injured. Authorities said one car appeared to be on the wrong side of the highway at impact.
