Police could not determine the driver of a car that ran onto railroad tracks near Rockford road early Saturday. The owner J. W. Ross of 1114 Fifth street NW, present at the scene, was fined $50 for intoxication in municipal court. A cab driver saw the car jump the curb on Third avenue, strike a relay switch, fly about 20 feet, and rest across Rockford road on the east parking area.

A Cedar Rapids man, Harry J. Anderson, 20, was booked into the city jail Friday night on a drunk driving charge after a two car crash on A avenue NE between Tenth street and St. Luke's hospital. He allegedly passed a car on the wrong side of the street and collided with Bernard O'Connor, 1300 Oakland road NE, around 7:45 p.m. There were no injuries.
A Marysville resident describes evacuation days as waters rose and city hall emptied while looting was discouraged. He fled with family to armory and Red Cross shelter, salvaging Christmas gifts, clothing, and blankets. The family was later directed to Sacramento and Kit Carson junior high, with plans to return home when possible.

Ten people were hospitalized after two auto accidents in Cedar Rapids on Friday. Four teens were injured in a collision on Sixteenth Avenue SW near Union Freightways, with six others in a second crash on E Avenue and Thirty-fifth Street NE. Several were listed in good or fairly good condition. charges were pending for some drivers.
A traffic control survey will begin next week in northeast Cedar Rapids at streets between First Avenue and Oakland Road from Foppmefi to Fortieth Street. Safety Commissioner F E A Prochaska said counters will be placed Tuesday for about 30 days to collect data on traffic movement and identify needed measures such as stop signs speed limits and through streets.

Park L. McCalley 55 of 738 Staub Court NE died from a heart attack while driving on Eastern avenue SE Friday afternoon. Emil Lawrence Erickson 82 of Allview drive SW Cedar Rapids died in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a sudden illness. A World War I veteran and Quaker Oats employee, he married Dolores Andrew in 1922. He is survived by a sister Edith Duck and brothers Alfred and Ernest Erickson. Funeral services in Turner chapel and Crescent Lodge rites follow at Cedar Memorial cemetery.

Charles City AP Ed Smith 41 a Charles City trucker died Saturday when his southbound gas transport collided with a northbound semi on highway 218 eight miles south. The jackknifed trailer struck his cab causing his body to be freed after an hour. Gasoline spilled and fire danger lingered. Smith survived by his widow and three children. his brother Al was killed in a crash two years ago.
