Rogers cites Vietnam progress and arms talks optimism

Secretary of State Rogers said Vietnam infiltration has tapered off about 80 percent from last year and South Vietnam is ready to assume more of the war. He praised the Helsinki talks with the Soviet Union as frank and businesslike and said foreign praise for U S policy has grown since April. He did not predict Vienna reconvening or a possible nuclear freeze details.

Linn County Levy Increases Spread Across Most Districts

Linn County property owners face higher real estate taxes next year as levies rise in 78 districts, with Cedar Rapids in the Marion school district posting the highest rate at 148.948 mills, up from 135.167. Finish Dodd Inquiry No Prosecution

Man dies shoveling snow during strong Christmas storm

Youths Rescue Men Trapped by Gravel in Crash

Six teenaged boys intervened to free men trapped after a truck swerved and buried a road with gravel near Laotian plane crash site.
