Pittsburgh reports a twin engined airliner carrying 28 men including 18 soldiers sank in the icy Monongahela near the city. Ten men are believed lost with eight crew saved as rescuers formed chains to pull survivors from the water in 18 degree cold.
An earthquake estimated near twenty seconds rattled Hollister California on Thursday. No damage was reported initially and residents felt Christmas trees shake in their homes.
A lawyer challenges a client's claim for divorce based on spouse neglect of appearance. The client asserts the husband has not appeared in nearly two years, prompting the exchange about grounds.

Burmese Premier U Nu said Chou En-lai agreed to receive a non official American study mission to China. He made the remark at a reception for the goodwill mission he led, noting Chou’s affirmative reply when asked.
