Enjoy seasonal crafts and music with cocoa at the Indian Creek Nature Center Cedar Rapids event after the solstice. The program runs 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 5300 Otis Rd SE with a $2 to $5 admission.
An electric crowd gathers for a winter solstice performance featuring spoken word and poetry with live music between sets. Featured writers include David Duer Mike Kleine Brent Watkins Laura Johnson Lamont Pretrell and Shell Feijo. Doors open 7 p.m. show 7:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is free with a donation option.
Brucemore offers holiday mansion tours through December 31 with Sunday organ music. Tour hours are 10 am to 3 pm Wednesday to Saturday and 1 to 3 pm Sundays, top of the hour except weekends half-hour start. Admission 7 dollars adults, 3 dollars ages 6–18, free for members. Children’s play area at Iowa City Public Library runs 11:30 am to 12:30 pm with free admission. VFW Post 788 hosts tenderloin baskets bingo 5 to 7 pm at 3240 Southgate Pl. Herky the University of Iowa mascot plans a 1 p.m. stop at Vernon Middle School to thank students for a fund drive that raised over 1164 dollars for the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital. The Student Council led the Change the World fundraiser during One Day for Iowa on Oct. 26.
Local 2985 representing 286 employees at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville donates 3000 to Toys for Tots. President Jason Moats says the gift brightens holiday for families and notes this is the sixth consecutive year of giving.
