Davis returns to solo patrol after long comeback
Cedar Rapids police officer Tim Davis returns to solo patrol for the first time in more than two years. Davis, 33, suffered a fractured skull and brain swelling after an attack on March 29, 2009, when Jose Rockett, 17, struck him with a pistol during a robbery investigation.

Prairie board folds speech into four year language arts
Prairie High School will drop a stand alone speech class for juniors starting next year and integrate the subject into all four years of language arts. The district will also add its own writing assessment to graduation requirements, replacing the MAP test. The board discussed selecting a new district leader, possibly with a search firm, as Superintendent Dick Whitehead retires in June. President Randy Bauer plans to meet with Gaylord Tryon and Associates to aid the search.
