Branstad’s condition improved to fair after heart attack

Former Gov. Terry Branstad, hospitalized at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, was walking in his room as doctors upgraded his status from serious to fair. He is set to begin cardiac rehabilitation after a balloon angioplasty with a stent to open the blocked artery.

Mason City man charged with first degree murder

Mason City police report Eric James Lang as 30 charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Jose Luis Martinez at their home. Martinez died at Mason City Mercy Medical Center after the 3 55 p m incident. Lang is in Cerro Gordo County Jail and the case remains under investigation.
