Plains economy shows slow recovery in Rural Mainstreet Index
A survey of 11 Midwestern and Plains states indicates farm economies remain weak but improving. The December Rural Mainstreet Index rose to 40.9 from 38.4 in November, with land prices at 44.9, hiring and lending still restrained, and bankers citing regulatory lending pressures as a factor in slow growth.
