Man Given Time To Enter Plea On Drug Charge
James Madison, 46, was ordered to enter a plea by Dec. 27 to a charge of violating the uniform narcotics drug act after an arraignment in district court before Judge B. J. Maxwell. Bond set at $5,000. He was arrested after a druggist reported an attempt to buy Dolephine with a suspicious prescription slip. Madison, also charged with vagrancy, had hypodermic needles and syringes in his possession. He pled not guilty to vagrancy in municipal court and remained in county jail. Detectives linked the prescription to an Independence doctor whose name appeared on the slip. the doctor said Madison, using the name John Phillips, had sought a drug prescription and that the doctor refused. Madison admitted stealing the slip and forging the signature.
