Parity as moral issue urged by Gov Loveless in Des Moines

Gov Herschel C. Loveless told about 700 Democrats that legislative reapportionment is a basic moral issue and Iowa must reapportion its seats by 1959. Car Hits Freight Train Near Fairbank Twice

A Fairbank car driven by Richard Fuller, 20, struck a Great Western freight train late Thursday, narrowly missing derailing it. This followed a Wednesday derailment that derailed 20 cars and killed one person after the track had just reopened.

Crossing Collision Kills Driver as Train Passes

The report says Fuller’s car was demolished and he was found in good condition later with a broken jaw and head injuries after crossing where the crash occurred. His wife Helen and mother in law Mrs. Louis Meyer are patients at Oelwein hospital. Earlier, Lee Roy Davis 25 of Vinton died when his truck hit a Great Western freight at a Dunkerton crossing.

Judge declines to block Milroy vote certification

Des Moines Judge Dring Needham refused to enjoin the Iowa Executive Council from certifying Rep. Jack Milroy's narrow re-election. George Good had sought a temporary injunction amid claims that Benton county ballots showed blank spaces due to machine setup. The ruling kept in place a prior injunction to keep machines locked while Good may pursue an official contest with the Iowa legislature.

Two Wisconsin youths face larceny charges after minor car crash

Galord Lisney and Timothy Seymour of Richland Center Wis were arrested in Prairie du Chien then brought to Waukon to face larceny charges for stealing a vacuum cleaner electric percolator iron and small items from a Waukon apartment utility room early Thursday. A service station attendant alerted authorities after seeing the items in their car.

Former Tama Man Dies in Pittsburgh

Carl Zak 53 former Tama resident and general sales manager at Phoenix Iron and Steel Co. Pittsburgh died at his desk of a heart attack. Survived by wife four children in Pittsburgh and mother Agnes Zak of Tama. Services will be held in Pittsburgh.
