Mr and Mrs Roy Blackledge hosted a Christmas gathering near Whittier in observance of the fifty fifth wedding anniversary of Mrs Walter Paul and her husband who also marked Mr Pauls seventy sixth birthday in December. Many relatives from Mount Vernon attended and shared in games and a mock wedding.
Gene Reed and Mr and Mrs Harve Lacock, all residents of Springville, are listed in the notice with familial ties to the community. The item identifies the individuals and their shared locality for the public record.
Mrs L A Dunn and fellow E F club members hosted a Christmas lunch at Dunn home northeast of Marion. Special guest was Mrs Otto Lang. Mrs. Bryan Sanborn honored her daughter Carolyn on her fourth birthday Saturday with help from sister Mrs. Fred D. Ross. Guests included Elma Jane Neff Nancy Jo Pfeiffer Harold Hayes Roberta Wilson Connie Lou Strayer Barbara Ann Neff Billie Shearer Ellen Howell Agnes Mullaley and Carl Adkins. An advertisement from Owen's Drug Store appears among the notices. Robert Titus visited his parents H. M. and Mrs. Titus as he spent Sunday in town. Hattie Perrin traveled to Dix Illinois to spend winter with sister Ida Eggericks. Laura Bailey Auxiliary of the Methodist church will meet at 7 30 tonight at 1535 Ninth Avenue with devotional led by Mrs. A W Henke and Mrs. G A Hutchison.

Prairie Chapel men hosted wives at a Christmas dinner Saturday at the church with 135 seated around tree lit tables. An orchestra of Cedar Rapids boys performed and Delbert Richardson sang with his sister Mrs Rex Brady. Several local residents noted dinners and visits including James Vernon returning from California Tech for vacation. The Gerald Gordon home reported the theft of two strings of outdoor Christmas lights.

George Orman of Lake Benton visits niece Mrs L C Wieneke. Stanley Ralston from Rockford visits W H Perrin. Ed Schultz to vacation in Pasadena for a month. Glenn Crouch fined 25 dollars for reckless driving. Prairie Chapel Sunday school Christmas program Thursday at 8 p.m.
Wilber Force J Whiteman father of famed orchestra leader Paul Whiteman died Monday after a lingering illness. He was 82. Paul had flown cross country to visit him, most recently on December 9.
The city council held its shortest regular meeting in a year. One item— a letter from the South Side Civic Club commending the covering of tracks on Third Street SE— was the sole action.
In 1939 a freak accident on Second Avenue involved five cars with three unoccupied. Dr. Eugene Carmichael and Bob Simpson, drivers of the moving cars, described a collision when Carmichael turned right from an alley by the Light company office. Carmichael’s car clipped a parked vehicle owned by Al G Owens as Simpson’s car rebounded into the scene.
Two cars parked along the rail belong to J. W. McClintock of Palo and Harry Hansen of 1805 Park Avenue SE. No one was injured.
Four hundred sixty one Linn county WPA employees completed their first December work period early so checks could be mailed from Des Moines before Christmas. Officials said normal cycles run from the 5th to the 19th and from the 20th to the 4th of the next month.
