Iowa City ERs expand as demand rises in 20 years
Eastern Iowans seek more emergency care as ER crowding increases strain on hospitals. UI Health Care will add a third ER by spring, consolidating the main campus ER west of the Iowa River, the Mercy Hospital ER east of the river, and a North Liberty ER opening soon. The main UIHC campus undergoes a $37 million renovation to expand capacity, with full completion expected next winter.
